September 10, 20251 yr Why do people who decide they want kids think it's right that the rest of us should subsidise them via even more childcare handouts? When we had kids my wife and I managed without ANY subsidies in respect of childminders. My missus didn't work for the first while then worked at times when I was available to be the carer for our kids. Having children, in the main, is a choice. That should come with responsibility, including a financial one.

There were always people in this bracket "back in the day" but the numbers have exploded and have exploited this desire by people in power to be seen to be helping the needy. The normalising of mental health and other "labels" which allows parents to access benifits to provide them with a very nice standard of living, thank you very much. We, like you, have never relied on the State to support us, and we have instilled this into our children and oldest granddaughter, who has been working for two years while continuing with her education. She's reaping the benifits of earning her own money, giving her choices that plenty of her age group don't have. She's not on great money but it's money and her hard earned money.

I got wee bit miffed when the lady from "Pregnant Then Screwed" popped up on the news last night My impression, and it is only an impression, is that there are waves of people setting up lobbying groups based on a punchy statement who make a decent living fronting these groups. I spent 3 months looking after my son when he was born in 1983 and could only afford to take a job when one that paid more than my wife got came along, luckily i had a decent redundancy payout from Dunlop to provide a decent standard of living for us so that we didn't have to rely on anyone else for help. My daughter managed the childcare landscape with our help but mostly on her husband and her own efforts. The Scottish state provides a lot to support families, you rarely hear anyone say thanks for that
