Hemming Signs for Chesterfield

I agree, quite a blow.

He was pretty steady and was one of a few reasons we had a good second half of the season.

Back into the unknown, fingers crossed as it's a crucial position.

I think Robbo will have targets in mind - Hemming was better than Balcombe but wasn't our biggest end of season loss

I believe we can get a better keeper for next season

He had improved since his first stint in Paisley and i think if we are really only looking at free-agents and loanees then we might get another Balcombe, but another Hemming may be beyond our financial reach.

Maybe we should have offered Urminsky in Part exchange?????

Nothing to suggest we are only looking at loanees / free agents ..

Ultimately , that might be the route we go down but not because of necessity

The club were fully aware a fee  was required for Hemming and seemed comfortable with that

Either the 150k was more than initially discussed or we offered that and Zach was getting more money at Chesterfield and chose that option

FWIW I think 150k plus wages/ok package etc was steep - don't think he was that good to justify that outlay, especially when we are still requiring pacey striker/ RWB & central midfielder

Looks like St mirren felt the package was too high and decided to  look elsewhere. He was an upgrade on Balcombe but there will be just as good out there without that price tag.

i'm starting to wonder if there is any truth in this. Nothing on the Chesterfield website or on the beebs coverage of them.

Is it mandatory to sign reserve keepers on loan from lower league English teams ?  A new keeper every season, for one year, seems to be the norm now. Presumably there are no decent stoppers from the several dozen teams in leagues below us.

It certainly looks that way Saint@Johnstone.  I'd rather we had our own permanent goalkeepers as it's such an important position to have stability in.  A permanent goalkeeper and permanent defence infront of him is the foundation of any team.  I realise we can't compete with the clubs down south with wages but surely we can find a decent, reliable goalkeeper from somewhere in the British Isles?
