He's a very important part of the way we, mostly, play out from the back.
As you say, he's also smart enough to hit it long when required.
He's also no bad at saving penalties. 😉

Best transfer window for many years, loving the players in that I have seen so far and not to lose Phillips is worth another 2 although Carr is becoming a firm favourite of mine, love his combative nature and ability to pick a pass.

Special mention to Fraser Taylor who has grabbed the opportunity by the balls and showing what a great little player he is

Don't know what the new lad from Man U is like for speed but it is lacking in our back line currently as their fast forwards got behind afew times although to be fair Motherwell had the same problem.
After saying that about the defence:
Hopefully Gogic has the brainfart out of his system for another few months as he does like them every so often and was otherwise his solid self. Fieldson was superb yesterday (speed aside) and that slide tackle towards the end was as good as a goal. John superb as always and his part in the goal, Ramsay showed some good stuff and think will be a great addition and Richardson with his running gave us something different against then tired defenders.

Special mention to big Agrafiotis, never played with the team before but would say on that showing his footwork and workrate were even better than Mandrons, fingers crossed it continues and Kabia after a slow start really grey into the game.

Overall great signs and the new Manager looks to be building something really good at Saints, very entertaining and positive.

7 points from first 3 games was an unexpected start and we are playing some great football

Just watched the highlights.
So, there's no question our goalie was at fault for the first goal.
No words to explain the utter fcuk up from Gogic but our goalie made up for his error with his SECOND penalty save of the season.
Their second goal was a pretty good hit, no real complaints about that one.
Nsio, absolute quality player, made his goal look easy.
Our second goal, well, goal of the season contender. The build up, passing and finish, straight out of the English Premier League.
Our third was a wee bit of head tennis but Ramos, who assisted the first two goals, again, slotted it away with some style.
Motherwells equaliser was, simply, a superb strike, painful for us but it just rounded off a great game.
So many excellent performances from our players, not often you can say that, and a manager who, yes, there was some uncertainty about but has shown, so far, he's up to the job.
Oh, the Board also get a mention for backing him with getting as many players on 3 year contracts as possible to give us some stability.
